Hubris on the Horizon
As I watch the endless stream of news about the recent oil rig disaster in the Gulf Coast, I can’t help but wonder how we can expect an alternative outcome?
Drilling miles beneath the ocean floor and relying upon robots to fix any problem that comes up, seems to me, the height of technological hubris. Our technologically mad society believes we can stand outside the realm of nature, and remove what we want without consequence. I can’t help but wonder what if will take for us to face the fact that continuing with our unabated use of fossil fuels can only end in ruin for the earth, but also ultimately for ourselves.
How much more proof do we need?
